It also serves as a good reference material for young candidates working towards taking the Diploma in Piano Teaching exam. The author has organized into bite size, topics that piano teachers will encounter in the course of their teaching. These topic include the very important first lesson with a new student; exploring tutor books; the various techniques associated with piano playing; teaching scales, aural and sight-reading and an overview of repertoire across the historical styles and genres. Some questions are factual and test only your knowledge and some are directed to your skills as a pianist, whether you are able to transmit your skills to your students. There are also questions that require application of knowledge. Asking the right questions will stimulate a curious mind that is essential for lifelong learning.
