Polish musician Wiktor Labunski was a distinguished pianist, composer, educator, and conductor. Labunski wrote thirty-one known compositions, all of which are located at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Four Variations on a Theme by Paganini, originally published in 1943, was a winning composition in a contest sponsored by the Society of American Musicians. It is a short set of variations on the last theme of the Twenty-four Caprices by Niccolò Paganini. Paganini was a virtuoso violinist of the 19th century, known for his daredevil technique on the violin and wizard-like speed.
